Ohio History Center, Columbus, Ohio Volksfest 34 Wrap Up By Mark and Debi Garrett After a week of recuperation, it’s time to put the wraps on Volksfest 34. Year number two at the Ohio History Center was another successful day of vintage VW fun! Talking to folks through out the day, I heard no negative comments at all. The show car area was hopping with yet another amazing array of fantastic cars of all shapes and sizes. The star of the show was Bill Goeppers amazing 1949 Hebmuller. Fresh off a 20+ year restoration, it won the well deserved Best of Show Air Cooled award. Karmann Ghia’s were the featured car this year, with Mark Richmond taking the Best Karmann Ghia award. Brian Knoll took home two special awards, Peoples Choice and the Tom Kern Memorial award. Best Display went to Brian Santin with his spectacular vintage Bluebird Motorhome and 1962 Cal Look Beetle. Look for a separate listing of all the award winners. The swap area seemed to be very well traveled all day long, highlighted by Midwestern Auto Group’s nice display featuring the new ID Buzz. The food truck selections did a brisk business all day long, and the breakfast truck was a nice addition this year. With the temperature in the lower 90s, the awards were moved back ½ hour so everyone could head home a bit earlier. With the awards presentation completed, folks packed up and another Volksfest was in the books. For the founding members, it’s hard to believe that this was 34 years of Volksfest and the COVVC. It’s a testament to the great group of enthusiasts that make this the best club ever. On that note, a great big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made this day possible.
